Aug. 17, 2002 - 21:08 MDT THE WONDERING JEW On The Wane The Sales (?) to outfit the children for their return to school are on now, which will as far as the female persuasion is concerned, segue into Fall Fashion Madness. Paper, pens, notebooks are available the year around -- more economically at places like Office Depot, but that spoils the fun of shopping for school if items like that are bought ahead of the rush to get ready for school. Anyhow, the impending return to Academia seems to be a joy to some and a curse to others, perhaps evenly split between parents and children. Some Moms are ready to exhale a giant sigh of relief, other Moms get a bit teary over the kids going back to school. With the young its a mixed bag too. Some kids eagerly look forward to a return to the rituals of learning. Free spirits, much as I was, accept the inevitable as gracefully as a young boy can (saying sotto voce what new curse words were learned during the summer). But its that time of year with crisp, cold, leaf crunching Fall hovering nearby waiting its turn to make its entrance. Young boys know the drill, those who have already been in durance vile. Clean clothes, ears, hands and elbows. Knowing soon they will be gingerly making the trek back to school, being required to arrive in clean, unwrinkled clothes, unscuffed shoes maybe with even a fresh haircut and self manicured fingernails. Uncomfortable it is, but it is Parental Law ! Even the most reluctant children will soon become involved in something at school when it starts, which will reach out and snatch their attention for that period each day. As the day nears, some kids will be wondering who their teachers will be for the coming semester. Some pretty well know who they will have. Of course here are mixed feelings in that area too. I can only speak for myself, but I look back and say, "Bastion old boy, those were the days my friend !" Still we have a few hot days, but mixed in are a few precursors of what lies ahead. Our summer is On The Wane . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
