2001-06-13 - 19:38 MDT THE WONDERING JEW Wired 'n' Weird While trying to catch up on e-mail -- yet -- I ran on to one from Mary. C the Easywriter lady which says came to her from Mississippi. I will quote and give the credit wherever it goes. "HOW DOES AMERICA WORK ? Let's see if I understand how America works lately . . . . If a woman burns her thighs with the hot coffee she was holding in her lap while driving, she blames the restaurant. If your teen-age son kills himself, you blame the rock 'n' roll music or musician he liked. If you smoke three packs a day for 40 years and die of lung cancer, your family blames the tobacco company. If your daughter gets pregnant by the football captain, you blame the school for poor sex education. If your neighbor crashes into a tree while driving home drunk, you blame the bartender. If your cousin gets AIDS because the needle he used to shoot up with heroin was dirty, you blame the government for not providing clean ones. If your grandchildren are brats without manners, you blame television. If your friend is shot by a deranged madman, you blame the gun manufacturer. And if a crazed person breaks into the cockpit and tries to kill the pilots at 35,000 feet, and the passengers kill him instead, the mother of the deceased blames the airline. I must have lived too long to understand the world as it is anymore. So if I die while my old, wrinkled ass is parked in front of this computer, I want you to blame Bill Gates, OK ?" Bastion here with an addition, the pregnancy of a high school daughter - in other venues will be blamed on the school for giving sex education . . . . . It seems to me that our whole country continuously seeks scapegoats, something to shift the blame off the real offenders. The frantic passage of laws to prevent someone from seeing something that will incite them to any number of vile offences seems to be gaining ground now. Crazy, as soon as we boys learned to read and fought off the dreaded dictionary thingy we managed to find every word that could be considered dirty and use it among ourselves, same goes for other books where we could find things we ?innocents? weren't supposed to know. Most of us, probably near 100 % of us did NOT become the crazed, vicious and degraded people who hold society at gun point or giggle point of loaded thought. So, now in our litigious American country much time is spent in punishing innocent people or companies for crimes they did not commit - often to their ruination. When will people of our country stop, think and take responsibility for things that are truly the fault of the slipshod, careless and purely moronic people who should have been on the front line ? Again, it is absolutely impossible to make something magically true by passing some dumb law instead of each and every one of us doing our job and shouldering the responsibilities. 'Nuff sed, tonight I am Wired 'N' Weird . . . . . . 0 comments so far
