Jul. 16, 2007 - 21:37 MDT Dodging Any more there is a time, between rush hours of folks going to work, going to lunch, and going home, that one can travel busy streets that aren't jammed up. The streets are busy, but traffic is moving. It's easy to tell when the mad rush is on, block to block gridlock for the most part. Some folks do hesitate until the street ahead of the traffic light has room for them to proceed, but around here, damn few. It'd be nice if things went back in time to the trolley cars, where autos were used for Sunday visits and shopping and jobs made heavy use of the streetcars. There was a wye on the avenue by our house where the trailers were parked between the rushes. During rush hour one could see a trolley and trailer pull up to a stop and disgorge many people. Job security for the Tramway folks, because the trailer had a conductor who took fares and pulled the cord to alert the motorman that the trailer was loaded. Ah, those days are gone, but not forgotten. And Heather and I spend time when out during rush hour now, DODGING . . . . . . . . . 6 comments so far
