WONDER ABOUT

From the time as a child trying to understand the world and its ways I learned that for the most part, weather in the U.S. mostly moved from west to east. What was happening in Washington and Oregon today, for the most part would be with us in a day or two. It seemed elementary to me as a child that the air we were breathing was once in Asia.

Skip to the present day. There is a man who has a lab high in the Cascade mountains, who along with his various instruments has determined that some of the soot and impurities in our air comes from China. Well, Duh, to me that should be a known fact, if I could understand the movement of air over our part of the United States is this man going to have to prove to the biggies that the WORLD HAS A PROBLEM ? ? ? ? ?

And where are the think tanks that should be trying to attack the problem of pollution in the entire world ? Where are the diplomats and what are they doing about it ?

Seems that many of our academics are devoting time, energy and equipment to prove known things.

Fear not though, we are entering the "Twilight Zone" that leaves me a bit unsure of the outcome of man and his affairs.

I quote a small portion of an article from The Associated Press - Cox News Service from an article titled, "The Military Machine"

"Earlier this month, the Army announced it was extending research and development work by scientists at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh on robot war teams. Each machine in such a team keeps track of its own movements and those of its teammates and makes decisions on its own, according to Carnegie researchers."

Some robots and unmanned aircraft are already being used in Iraq and Afghanistan."

Aside from the bit about what is on the drawing board now, and the attachment "Looking at the dark side," the "Twilight Zone" theme doo, doo, dee, doo de doo echoes in my mind. Where are we going and what will society by like in the next few years, let alone what will our great grandchildren face in the future ?

Perhaps human minds gone berserk commanding machines to do their genocidal thing ?

The victor of course will be the side that can produce the most efficient war machines and support the deployment of them. But what if the intelligence level of the victorious government is focused on such things as racial, religious differences ? ? ? ? ?

Maybe in some future millenia some one will come to the conclusion that our society is suffering the Harmful Syndrome and that it is contagious and just maybe figure out what to do to correct such lines of thought, such ways of raising children.

In the meantime, these are the things I WONDER ABOUT . . . . . . . . . .
