AND THEY GET A PENSION ?

Funny how such a short article can raise one's hackles, and my darn hackles are getting tired.

On the editorial page of The Rocky Mountain News this morning is one guaranteed to irk this jerk.

Quoted in full herein:

LIGHT-WORKING CONGRESS HEADS FOR EXITS

"Congress finally ended in the wee hours of Saturday with the leadership congratulating itself on passing a $45 billion tax and trade bill, filled with unrelated issues, and several health care issues."

"That's fine, but it's a sloppy way to legislate -- who knows what all is in the tax and trade billl -- and it should have been done earlier in the year. It could have been except that Congress wasn't around to do it. The lawmakers were in session just over 100 days, fewer than the notorious "Do Nothing" Congress of 1948. A three-day work week and generous recesses will do that."

The incoming House Democratic leader provoked muffled protests when he announced five-day work weeks for the next year. We'll see if that lasts."

"Most egregiously, Congress failed in its principal constitutional duty, appropriating the money to run the government. Of the 13 spending bills that fund the government's operations and that are supposed to be passed by Sept. 30 at the latest, Congress passed just two."

"One of the lawmakers last acts was to pass a temporary stop-gap measure funding the government until Feb. 15, meaning the ineptitude of the 109th will spill over into the 110th."

"Congressional Democrats won't have to do much more than show up and do the statutory minimum of work to surpass the bar the Republicans have set for them."

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In a way maybe it is better that this Congress didn't attend work more often. Think how bad they could have screwed the country up if they had of worked full time !

Perhaps the electorate should go shopping to see if we can find a country to outsource our government to that won't try for dictatorship. Corporations are outsourcing successfully to India and other countries.

Naah, that turns me off just thinking about it.

Still it grates on me, my work days for all my years of work were five days a 40 hour week. I did get time and a half for anything over that. As a reward I got two weeks of vacation once a year. No damn recesses either.

I guess if Congress had actually done some good during that 100 days it wouldn't go over so bad . . . . . .

And grating is the fact that, although in the minority the Damn Democrats went along with that without a whimper - apparently.

But especially galling are the perks - benefits and goodies Congressmen get, don't have to pay Social Security, free health care, and pensions for the rest of their life. Damn, I went into the wrong profession perhaps.

For all that great effort AND THEY GET A PENSION ? . . . . . . . . . . . . .
