Sept. 07, 2006 - 21:32 MDT ADMITTING THE OBVIOUS Heather's sister went to her maker this morning. Heather doing as well as could be expected, she spent a good part of the day on the phone with family. Could be a lot worse, glad it isn't. I think she is doing better than I would. A few comments on an article or two from The Associated Press, the largest by Deb Reichmann. Headlined: CIA PRISONS NO LONGER SECRET From what I have read there seems to be a lot of smokescreen snowballing afoot. " The President declined to disclose the location or details of the detainees' confinement, or interrogation techinques." So much of the secret is still not admitted. In a side article by Lara Jakes Jordan of The Associated Press there is a description of how the investigation went. "And the connecting of dots from suspected terrorists, intelligence officials culled the names of 86 people considered suitable by al-Qaida for carrying out terror operations against Western targets." "Many of them were previously unknown; half have since been captured or what the Bush administration described as "removed from the battlfield." In the third article by Pauline Jelinek of The Associated Press headlined: REVISED ARMY MANUAL BANS TORTURE OF PRISONERS "Officials said the revisions are based on lessons learned since the U.S. began taking prisoners after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks." So now after Abu Ghraib and all the renditions for interrogation, no longer can the military use: "##Forced nakedness ##Hooding ##Beatings ##Sexual humiliation ##Threat by dogs ##Mock executions ##Food, water deprivation ##Electric shock ##Burning #Simulated drowning" And a good part of those were revealed to be taking place at Abu Ghraib by our military - - - - regardless of their excuse that the CIA ordered them to do it. At the end of this article is a short sentence, "The new manual applies to all the armed services but not the CIA." ++++++++++ So it appears that the CIA will be forced to do the dirty work they foisted on our military, and not be bound by the revised manual. Or, heaven forbid not torture at all. Mr. Bush appeared to be full of excuses for why things were done that way - - - - but it doesn't hold water as far as I am concerned. But after this long time he is ADMITTING THE OBVIOUS . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
