another good day. went out to the village inn and had breakfast with our oldest son and his wife. privacy without without interruption, which is something we never had when either of us were still raising kids.

when we went out then the kids were with us, even after they were teenagers they were with us. when they started courting, it was iffy. now it is usually a family gathering before we see them all.

my 7 year old grand daughter in eugene, oregon read to me over the phone a poem which her mother said the 7 year old had chosen as one of her favorites. she read to me one about a shadow. i recognized it immediately. she read very well, after she finished, i asked her where did she find that poem. she said, "in a book from our bookshelves." i asked her the name of it and she said, "a child's garden of verses" by robert louis stevenson. after telling her well she had done i told her that had been my belove book which i had received as a gift when i was about 5 years old. i told her her mother was the one i picked out to pass the book on to or her children to read and enjoy. she seemed so tickled to know that. i don't think her mother had told her, probably just waited for her or her brother to become interested on their without being put under any pressure of any kind to read grandpa's old book.

rceived some e mail pictures of our latest great grand child. still not quite a month old. good things in a row are sure great. i am at the point of starting a logbook to keep track of all the greats, name, d.o.b., parents, etc. they are coming faster than i can keep track of. the family spreads and that is wonderful, none of them are going into mass production, each family more or less replacing themselves into a new generation. each child is born to a loving, responsible, stable mother and father. the best of all things happen and seem to come to us like bananas, in a bunch. life is good. my back is getting better little by little and i am trying to encourage it a bit, by doing nothing stupider than my normal routine, hah. snow is pretty well off the ground, the end result was a super messy rush hour for one evening and wet pavement for awhile. fender benders for that one evening and slow, slow movement was a problem. man am i glad that retirement does not force me out into that kind of gloop.
