Contact Kelli, temporary manager of Doug's "The Wondering Jew" |
Jun. 29, 2006 - 19:33 MDT BIPARTISAN An article in the Rocky Mountain News this morning by Seth Bornestein of The Associated Press seems to give a pertinent look at things as they are. Quoted in full herein: Climate scientists give Gore kudos for global-warming film WASHINGTON -- "The nation's top climate scientists are giving An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore's documentary on global warming, five stars for accuracy." "The former vice pesident's movie -- replete with he prospect of a flooded New York City, and inundated Florida, more and nastier hurricanes, worsening droughts, retreating glaciers and disappearing ice sheets -- mostly got the science right, said all 19 climate scientists who had seen the movie or read the book and answered questions from the Associated Press." The AP contacted more than 100 top climate researchers by e-mail and phone for their opinion. Among those contacted were vocal skeptics of climate change theory. Most scientists had not seen the movie, which is in limited release, or read the book." "But those who had seen it had the same general impression,Gore conveyed the science correctly, the world is getting hotter, and it is a man-made catastrophe-in-the-making caused by the burning of fossil fuels." "Excellent," said William Schlesinger, dean of the Nicholas School of Environment and Earth Sciences at Duke University. "He got all the important material and got it right." "While more than one million people have seen the movie since it opened in May, that does not include Washington's top science decision makers. President Bush said he won't see it. The heads of the Enviromental Protection Agencies and NASA haven't seen it, and the president's science adviser said the movie is on his to-see list." ++++++++++++ And Mr. Bush says he won't see it . . . . Heh, I didn't keep a log on how far back I began to read of the, what is it ? "The Hole In the Ozone Layer in the Antarctic," growing bigger every year. Compounded by the shrinking ice shelves there as well. Every year more and more articles come out reporting on scientific observations which indicate we are in a condition of global warming and its inevitable consequences. But, our administration has it's head either in the sand, or - - - - - - where ? Bush refused to sign off on the Kyoto agreement. Of course we as a nation are burning the most of the fossil fuels in the world and we might have to tighten our belts a bit, which is unacceptable to a money driven administration. Which is the way I see it. Some years back I groaned at the 55 miles-per-hour speed limit, but saw the reasoning. I also saw the common sense of smaller cars. Now we have on the road civilian HumVees - gas guzzlers to the max. SUVs only slightly more economical. Seems to me that this road to hell is not even paved with good intentions, only the desire for more money and pandering to some of us who desire more speed and hauling capabilities. Perhaps it is time for our administration, past and future, to become common sense and truly, for the good of all - - - Bipartisan . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
