Apr. 29, 2006 - 19:06 MDT MUSCIAL CHAIRS ? A rather confusing world we live in today, I would say. There is an Associated Press article in this morning's Rocky Mountain News, here quoted in full, that gives me a bit more confusion: DUBAI GETS OK TO BUY PARTS FIRM WASHINGTON -- "President Bush has approved a Dubai-owned company's takeover of American plants that make parts for jets and tanks." "Bush said Friday the proposed sale of a U.S. subsidary of a british precision engineering firm to the Dubai company "has been looked at very carefully." "He said he had signed off on the transaction after receiving recommendations from the Pentagon and a committee that reviews security-related sales to foreign entities." "Initial reaction from Capitol Hill was favorable." "This investigation was a significant improvement over what happened before," said House Homeland Security Chairman Peter. T. King, R-N.Y. "It's been much more thorough, much more detailed." "King was referring to the political firestorm over the proposed takeover of operations at several U.S. ports by another Dubai-owned company DP World. The company announced last month it was selling its interests in the ports to an American buyer after lawmakers protested that DP World''s running of the ports posed an unacceptable security risk." "Dubai , now a strong U.S. Ally, in the past has been a base for terrorist activities." "Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., a leading opponent of the port deal, also said he did not plan to oppose the newly approved transaction, saying there are two differences between it and the ports deal. "First, this went through the process in a careful way; and second, this is a product not a service, and the opportunity to infitrate and sabotage is both more difficult and more detectable." +++++++ I guess I am a hidebound (whatever that is) curmudgeon and feel that no U.S. company should be owned by a foreign interest. I also feel that any entity of our country should never own foreign businesses. Nor do I feel that companys of different countries should merge their interests with companies of our country. Nor, do I think that Bush or Congress should have the right to decide to allow foreign ownership here. Of course as our upper echelon is trying to merge church and state in our country, perhaps they have already decided to foster that philosophy and convert us into the "One World" state. Seems to be common to our Congress as well, that foreign interests have ownership of U.S. companies. Money talks and Congress walks I guess. I wonder who will be the one left standing in this game of MUSICAL CHAIRS ? . . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
