CIRCLE THE WAGONS

Guess Mr. Bush has it in for the media from what I hear. Seems that he feels that they only publish the "bad" news. Well in regards to his actions - - - - - what other news is there that he has anything to do with but "bad" news ?

In this morning's Rocky Mountain News is an article by Nedra Pickler of the Associated Press, shown here in full:

'CIVIL' IMMIGRANT DEBATE URGED

WASHINGTON -- "As Congress prepares for a showdown over immigration policy . President Bush urged lawmakers Thursday to have a "civil debate" that respects people of all backgrounds."

"Ours is a nation of law and ours is a nation of immigrants, and we believe that we can have rational, important immigration policy that's based upon law and reflects our deep desire to a compassionate and decent nation," Bush said."

"During a meeting with groups pushing for changes to immigration laws, including two representatives from Colorado, he urged a serious debate on the issues at a time when both sides have been playing to voters' gut emotions."

"When we discuss this debate, it must be done in a civil way," Bush said. "It must be done in a way that brings dignity to the process. It must be done in a way that doesn't pit people against another."

"The Colorado representatives were Charles Chaput, Roman Catholic archishop of Denver and Cindy Clark, director of human resources for The Broadmoor, a resort and hotel in Colorado Springs. Both support a temporary worker program for foreigners."

"Bush also wants Congress to create a worker program under which participants could gain legal status for a specific time and then be required to return home. It would not provide an automatic path to citizenship."

"Our government must enforce our borders," Bush said. "We've got plans in place to do so. But part of enforcing our borders is to have a guest-worker program that encourages people to register their presence sot hat we know who they are and says to the 'If you are doing a job that Americans won't do, you're welcome here for a period of time to do that job.'"

"After the meeting, Clark said she was pleased to hear Bush's views meshed with those of the hotel industry."

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It appears to me that whatever language Mr. Bush thinks will sway things his way, he will use it to the max. Only thing is, to my mind, he will use all the muscle he can muster to make things go the way he wants them to. And his reference to "Playing to voters gut emotions," that is what he and his did in the paranoia he and his stirred up after 9-11.

He keeps dinging the same bell, "jobs Americans won't do," which says (not mentioned by him) that Americans won't do jobs at the price industry wants to pay. Has anyone noticed that construction is heavily loaded with workers from the south ? Is that work Americans won't do ?

I wonder why it is that a Cafeteria Heather and I used to frequent had workers on the line serving people who could NOT SPEAK OR UNDERSTAND English ? That branch of the cafeteria is no longer there, and a branch of the same business across town has workers that DO speak English.

Makes me almost burst out in laughter, his words, "To have a guest worker program that encourages people to register their presence so that we know who they are and says to them . . . . ." In other words folks can cross the border and get a job and not register, just like they have been doing all along.

In Mr. Bush's short takes he doesn't discuss health care for the immigrants "temporary" - "guest workers" -- nor does he discuss any other things that would use our tax money in their behalf. Nor does he mention guest workers families and the education of their children.

Its obvious to me that things are as they always have been and will get worse if the industrial and business world of our country have their way. Getting down to basics, people from south of our borders will work cheaper than our countrymen. For the most part people from most of the rest of the world will work cheaper than we do -- but just how many of us have worked with our lives of quiet desperation ? That is why business wants them for employees. That is why business sends work overseas, used to be businesses sent their industry to the southern part of our country opening new jobs down there and paying employees less, that is, until employees there began to get together and unionize and ask for fair wages and working conditions. Then the next big move was to outsource like crazy.

Seems like every ploy in the world is used to beat down the people of our country to the point that they won't be able to buy what is on the market unless they do without some other necessity. And the CEOs and upper management continue to get bonuses and perks unimaginable by us common Joes, whether their company is doing well or not.

It may long be past the time to do any good, but worth a try anyhow - - - - CIRCLE THE WAGONS . . . . . . . . . .
