Mar. 09, 2006 - 18:17 MST PURELY WEIRD They are going after others who don't fit their perceptions of purity it would seem. I noticed that, to my eyes anyway, the Catholic church here in this area is fighting hard against the extension of the statute of limitations, saying that it would cause a flood of court procedures. Makes me wonder, could it be possible that the church was a protected hunting ground for centuries ? Also makes me suspicious of other denominations too, how long have trusted poobahs of any denominational church been molesting children ? Then today in the Rocky Mountain News is an article by April M. Washington of that paper that shows another line of bias. In full it is quoted: Panel OKs domestic-partner licenses, with higher fee "Gay and lesbian couples would pay $52 for a domestic-partnership license --- about five times more than a marriage license --- under a bill approved by the House Finance Committee on Wednesday." "The panel tacked the license fee onto a bill aimed at giving same-sex couples legal protections and benefits afforded married couples." "About $45 of the fee would go to the Colorado Civil Right Commission for a separate defense fund to investigate discrimination claims filed by gays, lesbians and trangender residents." "Some people woupld view these types of relationships as abnormal and would not want their taxpayer dollars used in this endeavor," said Rep. Bill Crane, R-Arvada, who successfully amended the bill before the committee voted 8-5 to advance it." "Proponents of House Bill 1344 by Rep. Tom Plant, D-Nederland, cried foul." "Currently, heterosexual couples pay a $10 fee for a marriage license" "Some supporters likened the higher fee placed on the bill by Republicans to the poll tax once charged to Southern blacks during the segregation era to exercise their right to vote." "It creates unequal treatment under the law by charging one segment of the population something another doesn't have to pay," Plant said." "Rep. Val Vigil, D-Thornton, agreed." "It's a general policy that we are supposed to protect the civil rights of citizens no matter the case," he said." "Plant's measure initially allowed a county clerk and recorder to collect a $7 fee for a domestic-partnership license plus any additional amount set by the state registrar." "The state estimated about 1,500 licenses would be granted in 2006-2007, and that number would double the following year." "Crane argued that the domestic-partnership measure would increase costs to investigate civil rights complaints." "HB 1344's fiscal note estimates the Civil Rights Commission would spend nearly $200,000 over the next two years to look into discrimination claims brought by gay couples." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This seems to be the trend in my state and I expect that very same type of thing is being pushed in yours. Seems to me that there isn't something right about assuming that passing that bill would create a flood of anti-discrimination suits - - - - if they don't realize that discrimination is and has been present all along. But they want extra tax money to investigate it. I don't recall any legislator or organization asking if I objected to the use of tax money to do things I don't approve ! Legislation by taxation seems to be the way the Purer Than Thou are trying to rule us. But it is not fair and square and above board either." I have COPD, much is due to my more or less chain smoking habit of over 60 years, I am an alcoholic-in-recovery since 1986. In recent years, taxes have been raised on cigarettes, rigorously, I used to pay about $8.56 a carton for generic cigarettes in 1999, now cigarettes mostly are $25 a carton or more. And no smoking areas being added by the bushel. BUT THE THING IS, liquor taxes have not gone up and alcohol is denied minors because of its harmful effects, certified that alcohol is a dangerous drug - - - - However the do-gooders haven't seen fit to enact laws against alcohol. Sure we have laws against people who cause accidents due to their being under the influence of an addictive drug and things like that. Ambivalence seems to fly like a flag. So it would seem that the do-gooders are going to charge a premium for a domestic-partnership license but do nothing to heterosexuals who abuse their mates and do other illegal civil rights violations in regard to their marriage, not going to devote budget tax money to solving those problems are they ? ? ? ? ? Guess the old, "Don't make waves," applies to civil life -- let the status quo go, or else. Oh don't change the law, for heaven's sake, we fear a flood of complaints. Wouldn't that mean that the smoke and mirrors indicate there is something real back there ? Nowadays the civil scene, and legislative scene are both Purely Weird . . . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
