CONDITION ?

Guess it is just a Georgie want list rather than a common sense report on The State Of The Union. From the article in this morning's Rocky Mountain News by Ken Herman of the Cox News Service here are quoted some of the highlights of Mr. Bush's speech.:

ENERGY

PROCLAIMED AMERICA is "addicted to oil."

SET A NATIONAL GOAL of replacing 75 percent of U.S. oil imports from the Mideast by 2025.

PROVIDE A 22 PERCENT increase in government clean-energy research to fast-track breakthroughs in how autos, homes and businesses are powered.

INVEST MORE in zero-emission coal-fired plants, solar, wind and safe nuclear energy.

EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

TRAIN 70,000 hight school teachers over five years to lead advanced-placement classes in math and science.

ENCOURAGE UP TO 30,000 math and science professionals over eight years to become adjunct high school teachers.

SUPPORT MAKING THE RESEARCH and development tax credit permanent.

HEALTH CARE

GIVE INDIVIDUALS who buy health savilngs accounts the same tax advantags as thosewith employer-sponsored insurance.

URGE CONGRESS to pass medical liability reform.

IRAQ

SET NO TIMETABLE for troop withdrawal but said that as Iraqi forces increasinglly take the lead, U.S. troop levels can be reduced.

CONTINUE TO HELP Iraqis build inclusive government, rebuild and fight terrorists in Iraq.

REJECTED CRITICS who say the U.S.-led invasion fostered terrorism.

IRAN

SAID THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY must not let the Iranian regime gain nuclear weapons.

TOLD IRANIAN CITIZENS that America repsects their right to push for a democratic Iran.

FISCAL POLICY

URGED CONGRESS to make tax cuts permanent.

REFORM SYSTEM that lets lawmakers earmark money for specific projects.

PASS THE LINE-ITEM veto to limit special interest projects.

LOBBYING SCANDAL

SUPPORTED LOBBYING reform, saying public servants' pledge of public responsibility must not be "forgotten, dismissed or betrayed."

Seems like a lot of "Gee I wishes," plus a lot of things he proposes that will not come to fruition until long after he is out of office without concrete plans to make them happen. Proposing investing and funding things out the arm with no real substance as to where he is going to get said finances. And he wants to make tax cuts permanent.

Buying "HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNTS" now just what the heck is that ?

The address seems to me to be smoke and mirrors and wishes and does not tell us a bit about our country's CONDITION . . . . . . . . .
