Megapolitan - with a population over 1,000,000 Macropolitan - with a population over 50,000 Micropolitan - under 50,000. looks to me like different statistics will be cited by different ways to confuse us more than we already are. ********************************************************** this mornings news reports that the American Council on Education lists the following facts (?) the number of college freshmen describing themselves as disabled has increased 35 per cent between 1988 and 1998. they also said that this increase was due entirely to a tripling the number of students who said they suffered from some sort of learning disability. well the usual probably.....it beats taking out a loan or earning the cash money to learn how to bilk the taxpayer of more money. ********************************************************** the biggies are throwing the sales tax on internet business at each other. i think that down the road the whole operation will degenerate into a situation existing in the banks now, they put in atm's originally to reduce staff, cheaper to feed a machine than a human and much less complicated. then later on they start chargins fees to use an atm. regardless of the given reason it comes down to the fact this is done "because it is there. and the banks have played the same game with credit cards and other cooked up introduced fees to grab more from us. ********************************************************** every time now that i need to call an organization or business i find more or less the same system in use, mechanize, electronicize things to eliminate employees and substitute a system whereby it is impossible to reach a live body. they seem not to care the amount of time, the trouble that costs us - - - - the customer who is always right. the frustration of trying to follow a menu that is confusing at the best and can never, never put you in touch with a person who might possibly be able to get me intelligent answers. America On Hold !!!!!!! ********************************************************** the recent news is not good, schulz, landry, both gone. the columbine high frenzy and paranoia is rising rapidly. maybe this time a solution and a fitting punishment will be arrived at before the media runs out of ink, paper and tv air time. globally it is not the, "who's on first" schtick but the, "who's the enemy ?" and i go pogo, walt kellys swamp critter who was smarter than the average citizen who said, "we have met the enemy and he is us !" ********************************************************** i find the long, torturous voyage of self discovery a never ending one. very often it seems to me that a year, two years, ten years can change my position 180 degrees. it seems that experience if used for reflection and cogitation gives me a more common sense view of the actualities. **********************************************************
