Slavery

Can it be ? Oh yes, still in our world it exists and in our country too. I read this morning about some Aurora, Colorado school children who, by their efforts ( guided of course by a teacher ) managed to raise one hundred thousand dollars. In our economy now in many areas, houses sell for at least twice as much. What did that much money buy ? Freedom for one hundred slaves in Sudan.

A thousand bucks a whack, wow ! freedom. But as in all silver clouds reality raises the specter of, freedom to what ? To exist in a life of privation and starvation ? To be and have the privilige to exist at a slight level above slavery ? All of Africa has and has had the natural resources to take care of its own, many times over. Yet but a only very few, who are the rich, do not have the big bellied, skeletal appearance of starvation. Those who are fortunate and free but still oppressed who have enough to eat, live in squalor and do without the things we consider the bare minimum to sustain a happy and contented life

A class of school children, pre-teeners at that, who care enough and were driven by feelings for their fellow human beings to go to the great effort it took to raise that amount. How laudable and what a good teacher they have. They read in the news about slavery still existing in our world, the news already ! They pitched in to do as much as they could to add to the efforts of the many, many religious groups and other humanitarian organizations that are trying to alleviate the misery and starvation and the cruel oppression of the common man. Imagine that ? It is reasonable to think that some of that class will spend a lifetime trying to help. Some who will be given enough to feed and clothe themselves and will spend the greater part of their adult lives trying to help others and feel compensated beyond measure by seeing a small success for their efforts.

Those few who will be looked down on by their fellow countrymen, probably won't all marry and have children to continue the effort to raise us above the subhuman level. Will this mean that countless numbers will die before they really know that they exist ? Maybe so, but morals, ethics and the urge to selflessly help cannot be injected with a needle or drunk out of a bottle or snorted. Nor will the apathy of many parents be the thing which incites a young person to rise to that level.

Born in the early 1920's many of us would give our few pennies trying to help the disadvantaged of the world. And so it was before us and will be afterwards. It looks to me as if the situation has been the desire to enslave and grow rich has been in one pan of the scales of justice -- and in the other pan, many people who are long on effort and short on money. The more I try to puzzle this thing out, the deeper my confusion becomes. I guess I shouldn't be so affected, I have grown up knowing that many of the same kinds of things exist in our own country, and efforts by right thinking people have been to little avail.

Methinks the the whole globe has gone stark, raving bonkers, crackers and totally apathetic. Instead of following the shining example of democracy that began in ancient times in Grecian thought, and sprung up in the cracks in the sidewalk and continues to exist today is struggling to survive. It looks to me as if the, "Me firsters," the, "I've got mine," and the, "Who can I screw out of whatever," types have set us up, have laid the groundwork for a collapse of decent government and a population who might just fall for the leadership of the giant, blond man, wearing a white hat and riding a white horse who has a heart as black as coal and a way of swaying thought as did Hitler in impoverished Germany after World War One. Funny thing though, Hitler was a dark haired, short, neurotic loudmouth who managed to make himself appear to the people as the big man on a white horse, and their misery level enabled them to go for his scummy ways of thinking and enabled them to look the other way as the "Final Solution," became a reality and almost a total success. Their railroads ran on time, their highways were as smooth as a billiards table and their factories hummed as the ethnic and moral cleansing went on. A good many Gypsys, a good many of the homosexuals, as well as the dissidents were exterminated by convincing people over there that the act of purification of the "Nordic -- Aryan People," was the necessity for the world to progress. Sheesh, how the hell did he suck the dark haired, olive complected Italians into falling for that crap ? ? ? ? The Japanese ? ? ? ?

I rave and I rant, lifting the safety valves of my psyche and venting a bunch of hot air, I guess, to little total effect perhaps. But caught up by considering the obscenity that is slavery, which is still existing in this present day, confronting us all with the Shadow's theme, "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men ? - - - - - - - the Shadow knows !" As do some of the rest us who see the evil in men. It may come about sometime, far in the future that we will all be subjected to slavery.
