2000-02-01 - 00:29:49 good happens, sometimes from apparent desolation. in our town there was a big airport which was vacated when a huge new one was built about 15 miles out of town. there was a huge military hospital which the government decided that without big military action it didn't need any more so they gave it to the city. also about that time the air base in town was given back to the city. its as if a giant game of chain chair occupation is going on . . . . but with no losers. what looked like future gang war zones or deserted prairie is turning into a modern day miracle, the whole ball of dirt and buildings. the city airport now already has some businesses operating there. property is being divided among buyers. there will be housing priced from inexpensive, small homes to the very pricey large homes. there will be shopping centers, schools, stores, parks and probably churches. the huge military hospital will also have a multiplicity of things there too. a huge hospital in town which has become cramped for parking and cluttered with traffic. it will take over the hospital building at the former army facility. there many entities in the process of renovating buildings, the land will be used in a manner fitting an area so large. the old air base is the furtherest along, it looks like a giant sowed a lot of houses spread widely acrosss the landscape, new streets are in, i think most of the old hangars are already occupied with businesses, city has some buildings out there, i think i heard that the poison control center is there now. i can see two four or five story buildings going up, quite obviously not residential. the old sturdy brick married officers homes are well kept and occupied. nco married quarters are filled or just about full. streets are being opened into the arteries surrounding the property. there is already one private school built, and operating. schools, stores, and other necessary services will be put in. it has been a city essence for a long time now. many of the houses had residents waiting to move in as the finishing touches were taken care of. there a couple of problems that will have to be solved somewhere soon. the traffic during rush hours has been bumper to bumper for years and the new arrivals on the old field and the residents who are occupying new condos and apartments already built before houses started being built, are causing the traffic jam to be a horrendous mess. the other problem i am sure, will be taken care of also one way or the other. the huge hospital buildings in mid city will be in the process of emptying out in the course of years. are they going to raze that fantastic group of buildings ? or are they going to see that they are occupied productively ?
the surrounding neighborhoods have been waging war over parking for years. in a large radius there are stringent no parking signs which are checked by patrol frequently. but the overall redevelopment has gone amazingly well and rapidly considering the areas involved. i am a grouchy old poop .............but it looks like the powers that be are cooperating for once and are really getting something good accomplished. c'est la guerre, time elapses, age collapses ! 0 comments so far
