PERSONAL SLANT

Gleaned from an article in the Rocky Mountain News this morning among the facts and figures of fund raising for charitable organizations is one instance of one man putting his time and effort into a cause. Money too, as his time is profitable in his own business.

Quote - "Occasionally, groups get an unexpected windfall."

"In Northern Colorado, two cash-strapped advocacy groups for child abuse victims will split the proceeds from a new house iln Windsor (Colorado) to be sold by silent auction next month."

"Enter Doug Collins, a 54 year old contractor who said his past charitable contributions have consisted of writing a check for "$50 here and there."

"The Colorado native decided building a house would be a good way to involve the community in bringing exposure and money to needy groups. The Larimer County Child Advocacy Center will split net proceeds from the sale with A Kid's Place, Weld County's advocacy center."

"The three bedroom house, expected to sell for about $350,000 in the auction, is being built with heavily discounted or donated materials under the superision of Collins, who owns Fort Collins-based UBuildIt, a construction advisory firm." (Fort Collins, Colorado)

"Area residents have been going on line to vote (at www.ubuilditforthechildren.org) on many of the home's donated amenities, which include high-tech wiring and top-end features that already have added far more value to the house than it's likely to fetch, given the prices of other homes in the subdivision, Collins said."

"I felt it was about time I give something back for a change," he said."

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

The article goes in depth explaining the state of charitable organizations financial woes. Seems that the government and other sources, suffering from the economy ( or whatever the excuse ) have been paring down what is given to the non-profit organizations who have the welfare and happiness of people needing help at heart.

I know how it is, as our income stays the same, and our HMO keeps raising our co-pays, everything else is going up in cost -- what little I give is getting to be less and less. Between a rock and a hard place is where we are. Understood that times are hard, but not understood, I think, is that times are getting harder for the hard up people.

Kudos to Mr. Doug Collins who is going to great lengths to benefit the child advocacy program with his own PERSONAL SLANT . . . . . . . .
