Jul. 23, 2005 - 21:51 MDT WHICH TEAPOT ? Not sure it is an accomplished fact as yet, but an article in the Rocky Mountain News this morning by Patrina A. Bostic of Cox News Service gives us an idea of what is in the wind. In part: Congress OKs extension of daylight time WASHINGTON --"Congress wants to put a little more sunshine in your life." "Senate and House lawmakers agreed late Thursday to extend daylight-saving time by four weeks beginning in 2007. It would start three weeks earlier, the second Sunday in March, and end a week later, the first Sunday of November." "A little sun. A little smile in your step," said Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., who co-sponsored the measure with Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., as part of a huge energy bill Copngress hopes to approve next week." "They said studies show that daylight-saving time decreases the number of fatal traffic accidents and reduces crime." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Somehow the phrase, "Studies show," raises my hackles. Those studies are slanted to prove (ostensibly) what the studiers want to prove. Looks pretty easy to figure who will be for that and who against extended daylight-saving-time. Some of us have been enemies of DLST from the crib. Some can't understand why we aren't on it year around. I look at the whole bit with a wry eye, wondering what else do they have up their sleeve in that "huge energy bill? " perhaps pumping Alaska dry ? Each of us running a mile on a treadmile hooked up to a generator every morning on arising ? Thermostats kept below 65 ? Naah, I don't think any of that will be, no money spent on fuel that way. The bottom liners will have none of that. But the way I look at it, that "huge energy bill" will be rendered to the public to pay. Of course, in the discussion of that, sight will be lost of the other unfavorable things that will be included. I am sure there will be an uproar over it, guess it will be a tempest, but in WHICH TEAPOT ? . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
