Jun. 07, 2005 - 18:06 MDT 'SPLAIN SOMTHIN' LUCY Lessee now. There are many addictive drugs available by prescription in our country. Regulated and overseen by the medical profession and production governed by our federal government. I myself have a prescription for ocycodone or percocet which contains some acetaminiphen also. It is an addictive drug, needed to show drivers license and sign for it when I got it. Used by me when nothing else helps with back pain. Thanks be to the higher power that it still brings a measure of relief. Morphine is a highly addictive method to relieve pain, but judiciously prescribed when the pain is too great for a patient. Yet our "pro-active" Supreme Court decides that medical marijuana is illegal and the possession can be a federal crime. Of course our laws and philosophy in our country are a bit on the weird side anyhow. Alcohol, a very addictive substance is legal for those who have reached their majority and penalties for damages to self and others when under the influence are heavy. Now in our state it is illegal to have an open container of alcoholic beverage in one's car. Ambivalent is the word I guess. Soon I suppose it will be illegal to transport a case of beer in the trunk of a private car. Now the tendency is to make desired things so expensive that only the rich can afford to use them. Cigarettes, although not outlawed per se are getting much too expensive for the average person to smoke. Yet, booze of most any form can be had in its economical form by even the impoverished. Local feeling here in our state where medical marijuana is legal is that few will be punished for using a legitimate dosage. The drive will be on the biggies who grow and peddle in quantities. BUT, if the feds so desire they can increase the population of our jails by making a big sweep of the medical users and put them in jail and withdrawal with nothing to relieve their pain. Our government is trying to sell abstinence to the populace, heh. The old joke, "What do you call a Catholic woman who practises the rhythm method ?" The answer, "Mother." Abstinence hasn't seemed to work for the priests, many of them, either. Something so elemental and basic to human nature and the old saw of abstinence is still on the selling block. Seems as if the use of condoms is being condemned too. Safe sex is not is use and the incidence of HIV is running rampant in the world. So this Desi has to say 'SPLAIN SUMTHIN' LUCY . . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
