Feb. 23, 2005 - 18:59 MST THE WONDERING JEW As Ever A short article buried mid-paper in the "National Briefing" spot uncovers news that might be good. In its entirety: District of Columbia WASHINGTON -- "The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the efforts of Interior Department officials to remove a federal judge from overseeing an 8-year old lawsuit by American Indian landowners seeking an accounting of trust funds set up on their behalf." "The court declined to consder a last-ditch appeal by the government concerning U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth. A number of current and former Interior offcials claim he is biased." "Lamberth found President Clinton's Interior and Treasury secretaries, Bruce Babbitt and Robert Rubin, in contempt for failing to turn over documents; and found current Interior Secretary Gale Norton in contempt of court for failing to follow his orders,a ruling later overturned by the U.S. Court of Appeals. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Opinionated comments go here ! After so long a time, stuff like this seems to lose its value to the media. Michael Jackson, Paris Hilton and others too numerous to mention seem to be more of interest to what the media thinks will be of interest to the general population of this country. And perhaps they are calling it like it is. But I, for one, don't feel that is the way it should be. Seems that the more facts investigations have come up with, the darker the actual records are against the minions of our government, who seemingly have cheated the tribes of American Indians out of untold wealth through various ploys ever since we began, Heh, diplomatic relations with the various tribes. Now our government will go for various things such as allowing the site of The Sand Creek Massacre to come under government attention. But if it involves money ? No, No, No, that ain't the way we play the game. NO way, will we come up with records and documents. And if it is money that we have cheated out of the tribes ? Not no, but hell no. Seems to me that the bias of our government against the American Indian is overwhelming and the machinery fraught with sand in the gears when it comes to paying the Indians what is owed. I think history has a lot to say about our treatment of the Indians. Barely a treaty between our government and the Indians has ever truly been honored and lived up to, at least it's the way I have read it. You know, so what the heck, get off work, come home, pop the top on a brewski, sit down and watch the so-called evening news and refuse to consider something like the Indian problem, and so to dinner. I hate to feel this way, but with the Court of Appeals being part of the administration and apparently leaning away from fairness to the Indians, and those huge efforts of Interior department officials to have a federal judge removed from overseeing the aged 8-year old lawsuit certainly smack of concealing a crime against the Indians. So, I suppose after more years of trying our government shall prevail and once again the Indians probably lose, As Ever . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
