2000-07-07 - 19:30 MDT July 7, 2000 Inertia That facet of reality that says whatever something is doing it will tend to continue to do so unless overcome by a greater force, moving or still, it will do it's thing. Mania or torpor rather than harmony - - seldom do I see something or someone existing at the balance point of life, reality, what ever. The swing of the pendulum fits in here some where and the very long time it takes to come to rest. I'm thinking about this, if the pendulum comes to rest and stops - - what does that mean ? It means that the durn clock has stopped. So it seems that my main effort should be to create an inertial motion and maintain it in the effort to lead a commonsense life. What is the phrase ? Keep your cool ? Many of us as we age I think, sort of forget to wind the damn thing so that sooner or later the pendulum will stop swinging and we get filed in the box and planted. It seems to me also that many people and organizations are striving for permanent change, immediately - - - even though they have not considered the consequences. the possible side effects and the logical progression of the course hastily chosen. Stubborness, is a thing that tends to stop progress, and it is a word with many synonyms - hidebound, bigoted, one way, the feeling that one way is the only way coupled with a closed mind that will not even consider looking at something in a different light, we have definitions out the ears and very few are beneficial. It requires I think, a common sense approach to life with a mature attitude, to be able to decide at what level should we do what. How bad do things have to get before stringent action and steadfastness (in a way a synonym of stubborn) must take place. Very carefully it must be weighed so that action doesn't cause things to be worse than before. In short, "Quick Fixes," a temporary stop gap, impermanent thing - - - just to hold things together until the right part, routine, procedure is developed and put into place. Every thing is so complex that it is difficult to run our own personal finances and raise our families as we should. Why should I trouble my mind that a damn Baptist has just moved into our neighborhood ? For "Baptist," substitute any word or phrase that denotes a "difference," of any kind - - Asian ? Hispanic ? Pro-abortion ? Anti-abortion ? Republican ? Democrat ? rich ? poor ? The paranoia that some one who is different is out to do harm to us is usually groundless. What I have seen is the average person lives a stable life, takes care of his personal affairs and family - - and doesn't become a member of one or another of the militant, radical, fanatic groups. And from what I have gathered also, the average person wishes to be left at peace and not have to suffer numerous phone calls, junk mail or obstruction of his path which he or she takes to live his life to the best of his abilities. The old time philosophy when things get bad of, "Somebody ought to pass a law against that !" Yeah right - - - we already have a back log of laws that will never do anyting but cause trouble for us, making things more difficut and complicated to stay out of the slammer because you forgot to cross a t or dot an i.I wonder how the following two feel Meridith Andrea 0 comments so far
