THE WONDERING JEW

Grinding Slowly

As usual tucked in the middle of the paper a small item.

What's the point ? envoy asks, citing stall on Sudan

UNITED NATIONS -- "John C. Canforth, the U.S. ambassador, assailed the General Assembly on Tuesday, saying its decision to avoid voting on a resolution denouncing human rights violations in Sudan called into question the purpose of the assembly."

"One wonders about the utility of the General Assembly on days like this," he said. "One wonders if there can't be a clear and direct statement on matters of basic principle, why have this building ?"

"Danforth's blunt-spoken exasperation was the result of a ruling by the General Assembly's committee on social, humanitarian and cultural affairs to take no action on a measure citing human rights violations in Sudan, which the United Sates has called genocide."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

My thoughts on this.

So natives of Darfur continue to die, in refugee camps not allowed to return to their farms and existing in squalid and unsanitary conditions depending on aid from where ?

It seems in so many cases in the city, county, country and world that there is no action taken on much of anything. Until the coming tradgedy has gone to a final conclusion. By then, as the smoke and blood clears it is self-evident that the action taken has been too late. And another act of futility, ignorance and ignoring facts has again taken place.

We have a preemptive war going on in a country who was under suspicion and we can't persuade the United Nations to take any activity on Darfur. Is this a payback for that action of ours ? I doubt it. I have often thought that the United Nations is essentially useless. Maybe I am wrong. But now we have members of that establishment who are hostile to anything of the western world and hostile to anything that might keep them from having advantages over the poor and helpless in any land.

Even in the planning of public works here we seem to fail, by the time an improvement is made in our highway system it is ten to twenty years to late to do much good to alleviate anything. Continuous gridlock. And in many other matters is is the classical, "A day late, a dollar short," or worse.

And they say" the mills of the gods are Grinding Slowly" . . . . . . . . . . .
