Sept. 23, 2004 - 21:11 MDT THE WONDERING JEW Don Quixote In Chaps ? Somebody had an idea here and is trying to make things all better. There is a proposal on the November 2 ballot, Amendment No. 36. It would change how Colorado casts its nine electoral votes, which all currently go to whoever wins the state. If approved, the measure would divide the electoral votes proportionally among candidates based on the popular vote starting this year. How recklessly romantic, and naive, I think. The idea in itself is marvelous. But its success would depend on its being adopted by all the states of our union at once. Or maybe adopted by the states with the most electoral votes at the start, it would stand a chance of "one man - one vote," A solution many of us have dreamed about for years. Colorado with nine electoral votes ? I can see no actual effect on this election. Thinking about it, it might work around to all states on down the line taking in the orphan and making it a reality. But to me it looks as if big money will do its best to beat the idea. No windmills here really, except those giagantic power source hummers and a dingbat knight wouldn't stand a chance with one of those, but ain't we Don Quixote In Chaps ? . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
