Contact Kelli, temporary manager of Doug's "The Wondering Jew" |
Sept. 08, 2004 - 19:13 MDT THE WONDERING JEW OH YES! The Colorado University sports scandal lives and thrives on such as this. An article in this morning's Rocky Mountain News by John C. Ensslin of that paper. In part: CU regents: keep report secret Grand Jury findings on recruiting scandal said to be scathing "The University of Colorado Board of Regents wants a Denver District Court judge to suppress a scathing grand jury report that criticizes the regents' handling of the football recruitment scandal." "The regents prepared a response for the still secret report after meeting for four hours last week behind closed doors." "They also agreed to ask Judge Jeffrey Bayless to order that the report issued by the statewide grand jury not be released to the public." "The regents won't talk about the report, nor will they discuss why it should remain secret "A CU spokeswoman also declined to talk about the matter." "If Bayless decides to release the report, he must find that it: "Is based on facts developed the grand jury investigation and supported by a preponderance of evidence." "Does not contain information solely intended to ridicule, abuse or embarrass persons or businesses that are the subjects of the report." "Does not contain material that is personal and unrelated to the inquiry." Does not disclose the identity of a confidential informant." Does not prejudice any pending criminal matter." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Then the rest of the article goes to "sources say" stuff, some of which might even be accurate. Quotes: "Sources say the regents are upset at the language in the report, which describes the board as being "unqualified" and not "equipped" to oversee an operation such as the CU athletic department." "Sources familiar with the report, however, have told the Rocky Mountain News that it criticizes the way CU Chancellor Richard Byyny oversaw the athletic department." Un-quote. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ So much for the news and so much for the "sources." My opinions such as they are. If CU administrators want to keep their reputations pure as the driven snow they should force the release of the grand jury proceedings. CU has an excellent reputation in academics and science and health science too. I think that this matter should be put behind CU and the only way I can see that it can be done properly is by absolute honesty on the part of all CU from Byyny on down. Let the chips as well as the dips fall where they may and the floor mopping begin. Looks to me like another CYA, OH YES ! . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
