Aug. 05, 2004 - 21:03 MDT THE WONDERING JEW Indicate ? An article in the Rocky Mountain News today -- attributed to no one other than itself. Two victims advocates leaving CU "Two women who advocated for rape victims and prevention programs are leaving the University of Colorado, in part because of the sex and recruitment scandal involving the CU football program." "Amy Robertson, director of CU-Boulder's Office of Victims' Assistance, is leaving her post at the end of September after nearly 10 years on the job." "Heather Sturm, coordinator of the CU Rape and Education Program, has left her job after three years with CU." "Both voiced disappointment with how the university dealt with allegations that CU officials tolerated the use of alcohol and sex as recruitment tools." "I just feel my personal values and beliefs are not in line with those of the institution," Sturm said Wednesday." "Roberston said she will be leaving for a mix of personal and professional reasons. But she also cited concerns with the long-term impact of the scandal. "Certainly the climate has played a role in my decision," Robertson said." "Pauline Hale, a spokeswoman for CU, said both Robertson and Sturm have made "important contributions" to the way CU responds to sex assault victims." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ My opinions. It appears to me that the Old Guard, the moneyed, affluent, super-sports minded folks are pushing trying to cover up and force the recruitment of footballers with any means possible. I don't blame those two brave women for quitting and the reasons they advanced. Just hope they find a decent place to light where they and their work is respected. There have been repercussions on this subject from a long time ago. The President of CU, the Regents etc., etc., have patted each other on the back and backed her on the affirmation of the C word being a term of endearment or such -- going back to ancient references to the word. But not dealt with was just how the C word was used in reference to a lady athlete. Every one to my way of thinking is playing Grand CYA all the way around. My thought, among others is that perhaps this sort of thing has been going on for a long time at all the big colleges and universities that are sports oriented and football fanatics who rely on big alumanae contributors. And in the background are the average citizen who likes foot ball cheering CU on. Short sighted to say the least I say. Maybe one of their granddaughters will be raped by a star athlete sometime, and bring the seriousness of the situation to their mind to late to keep it from happening to one of theirs. This whole thing disgusts me. It was bad enough to find out that athletes were more or less given free rides and graduated without doing the scholastic requirements. That was bad enough for the Glory of The Red Blooded sports fans. May Robertson and Sturm live long and happily. This sort of atmosphere in the higher halls of Academe, now just what does that Indicate ? . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
