Uncanny Similarity

Three Headlines today:

9/11 Over at the start.

Hijacking transcripts show chilling deceit in air, confusion on ground.

Bush defends comments alleging Iraq, Al-Qaida ties.

The first headline has a sub headline, "Response so slow, the last plane had crashed while U.S. figured out what to do."

This article is by David Espo of the Associated Press.

From both articles it seems to me to show that there is plenty of blame to spread around to everyone concerned. Obviously our airport security people should have prevented the captured planes from getting into the air, should have prevented unauthorized people in the cockpits, should have known of the capture of the aircrafts and alerted Washington immediately And it goes on from there.

From the first article and the second article by Eileen Putnam of the Associated Press it seems to me to indicate that most everything was muffed. From the high tension of the Cold War U.S. to 9/11 it seems that nobody was really actively watching the store.

And to my way of thinking no people of foreign countries should have been allowed to enter in any classes in any aircraft school of any kind in the U.S., notification should have been made to the feds when attempts were made to enroll. If they want to learn to fly they should do it in their own country.

The further back one looks, the more one can have 20/20 hindsight, and consequently see what should have been done, too late for that now.

The Patriot Act and Homeland Security don't make me feel secure, rather it frightens me. It would be a better idea to listen to the military experts and intelligent intelligence and act on those things rather than load us down with encroaching on our civil rightsand ignoring the real facts.

The third article by Cox News Service. In part:

"President Bush defended his administration Thursday against charges that it exaggerated Iraqi ties to the al-Qaida terrorist organization to help justify war against Iraq."

"The reason I keep insisting that there was a relationship between Iraq and Saddam and al-Qaida is because there was a relationship between Iraq and al-Qaida," Bush told reporters at the White House. Bush also reiterated that the White House has NOT accused Baghdad of playing a role in the al-Qaida attacks that killed some 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001. "This administration never said that the 9/11 attacks were orchestrated between Iraq and al-Qaida," Bush told reporters after a White House meeting with his Cabinet. "We did say there were numerous contacts between Saddam Hussein and a-Qaida," Bush said, referring to the toppled Iraqi leader."

"The independent commission investigating the Sept 11 attacks reported Wednesday that there were were contacts between Iraq and al-Qaida leaders, including its fugitive commander, Osama bin Laden."

"Thomas Kean, a former Republican New Jersey governor who heads the commission, said Thursday there was "no question" that there were contacts between al-Qaida and Iraq."

This article does not mention what communications and contacts were made to who from who. The gist of them . . . . . Bush seems to be contradicting himself a bit, waffling you might say, in his comments. Now just what the heck is he saying ? ? ? ? or trying to smokescreen ? ? ? ? ?

Thing that gets my nanny is the insinuations and twists on all of the things regarding Iraq, even bringing Iraq into the picture. Seems to me that Brer Bush in response to 9/11 wanted to proclaim a dictatorship with him as the main man and realizing that it wouldn't fly, got the Patriot Act going including efforts still at this time to make it harsher yet. And even if what Brer B. said is his actual words it still doesn't excuse the implications he gave that seemingly allowed a pre-emptive war with Iraq. Seems to me that too much bushwah is floating around now. All in my opinion of course . . . .

I follow Non Sequitur by Wiley in the comics, always. Today Dad is in his easy chair with the newspaper spread on his lap and asks his daughter, "So what'd you learn from reading the newspaper this week, Danae ?" She goes, "Hmmmm . ." Next panel she says, " . . . that politicians talk a lot, but don't really say anything, and that people are stupid enough to blindly follow them. Next panel Dad lowers the paper and gives her a double take. Last panel Danae says, "Um . . . did I say something wrong ?" To which Dad having dropped the paper and with his hands hanging to the floor says, "Unfortunately, no . . . . . ."

I don't really think I am all that weird, but seem to see that between the news and Non Sequitur there is an Uncanny Similarity . . . . . . .
