Feb. 08, 2004 - 19:35 MST THE WONDERING JEW Belated Meal In trying to do a bit of night flying I find that the next day my room has a slugabed. Hard to wake too. That's what I am. Trying to figure out what meal I am supposed to eat along with my strong coffee. Settled for strong coffee and Sunday Brunch it fit pretty well, along with a late supper also. Can't seem to get a link up, the url is: http://www.simplyjeanne.com/brunch/index.htm 1. - Cash, check or charge ? A. - Some of each, depending on the circumstance. 2. - Who or what do you spend most of your money on ? A.- Most of it goes on the lease, groceries, gas and necessaries. What's left I spend some on me and hoard for Heathers Christmas, birthday, Mother's day and our anniversary. On Valentine's day she gets whatever I can come up with. On a pension and Social Security we can't spend large. 3. - How often do you shop for yourself ? A. Seldom. An occasional book, a bargain on hard candy, a pen maybe. 4. - One television commercial says the average American has 14 credit cards . . . are you average or below average ? Very much and far below average. 5. If you could take one paycheck and just have fun with it, what would you do ? A. - Nowadays the most fun we have that costs money is to go see our daughter and her family in Oregon. Usually the equivalent to a months income is saved up. We live in Denver and must fly there due to my oxygen requirements, while there we have a good time spoiling our Oregon grandchildren and visiting with their parents. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Anybody remember the Tail Hook Scandal ? ? ? Shameful to my mind. Now we have the sexual miasma hanging over Colorado University. Seems like the bigwigs up there in Boulder are in what we alcoholics call denial. Jim Spencer a columnist at The Denver Post has a column in Sunday February 8, 2004 issue who seems to bring up some cogent thoughts. He says, "Under oath, former associate athletic director Robert Chichester swore that he and Barnett (football coach) discussed the need for prospective players to attend parties where girls might offer themselves to recruits. Barnett, Chischester said, felt that CU football would be at a competitive disadvantage with other big-time sports schools without that enticement." "In other words, he assumed that because it happens everywhere, it had to happen at CU. Chichester's deposition came in the federal lawsuit of Lisa Simpson. Simpson is a former CU student who claims she was raped at a December 2001 party at her apartment where football players showed up with recruits. Some players at the party maintained in depositions that Simpson had consensual sex. Two more women have claimed they were raped at or after the party." Jim Spencer has this opinion, "Rapes or no rapes, what defies dispute is that a drunken orgy took place at Simpson's apartment. This drunken orgy was assumed, if not planned, by the athletes who hosted the recruits." Mr. Spencer talks about a "Deposition of football player Marques Harris, paints a picture of CU recruiting ugly enough to make the picture of Dorian Gray look like Cindy Crawford. Harris is one of several CU football players who hosted recruits and attended the party at Simpson's. He was in and out of the bedroom at Simpson's apartment where recruits and players had sex with several women and where Simpson and another woman claimed they were raped." Spencer continues, "Under questioning by police and by Simpson's attorney, Baine Kerr, Harris said he never saw any sexual assault. He did, however, see plenty of what he considered consensual sex, and he talked plainly about the expectation that visiting recruits would have sex at the party. Seems that Harris had more to say, Spencer goes on, "I think it was expected for the fact that (these) athletes were top college recruits from around the nation," Harris said under oath, "So you know, they're the future of our team." Mr. Spencer says, "So the university does what it assumes it has to do to woo them. This is a team effort, and CU recruiting team apparently includes not just football players, but football groupies." "Harris used the term with police investigating what happened at the December 2001 party. The phrase came up again in Harris deposition. It is a way of looking at women that begs for misunderstanding. "What does (groupie) mean to you ?" Kerr asked Harris. "Basically a female who loves any athlete because . . . they are an athlete," Harris answered. "Were there other women in addition to (name deleted) in the fall of 2001 who you thought of as groupies ?" Kerr continued. "Yes." "How many ?" "A lot of them." Mr. Spencer finishes, "They included, Harris and his jock buddies assumed, all the women at Lisa Simpson's appartment. Assume, the old saying goes, can make an 'ass' of 'u' and 'me.' Its still doing so at the University of Colorado." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Looks to me that this thing will end up stirring up a storm in the university/collegiate area across the United States. You know there is a hell of a lot of smoke which apparently is coming from the fire under the bums of the biggies up in CU. From what I remember there has been under age alcohol involved in some of the campus activities. To me, any woman who is under the influence of alcohol should be considered to not be able to respond to what happens at athletes parties. Consensual in those circumstances is a ridiculous term in my eyes. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Another article in the paper from Associated Press by John J. Lumpkin with the headline, "Rumsfeld orders study of sexual assault in military." Mr. Lumpkin has this, "Washington -- Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has ordered an investigation into reports of sexual assaults among troops stationed in Iraq and Kuwait, the Pentagon said Friday." Further on Mr. Lumpkin says, "defense official said the memo came in response to media reports citing the Miles Foundation, a Connecticut-based organization that assists victims of sexual or family violence who are connected to the military. Some 37 women have told the Miles Foundation they were assaulted by fellow military personnel while in Iraq or Kuwait during the past year," said Christine Hansen, executive director of the organization. "Of those, several said they did not receive thorough medical care, access to chaplains and lawyers, or information on their rights," Hansen said in a telephone interview." "Only 11 of the women reported being assaulted to military authorities," Hansen said. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I can readily understand why only 11 women reported being assaulted. I think they were fully aware of the CYA operations that makes them losers sometimes including violence if they say a thing. Looks as if women have been assigned as accessories to sports figures, politicians and the military. Consensual my left foot.
