2000-06-03 - 2300 MDT June 3, 2000 Gag Looks to me as if the claws of censorship are about to scratch our eyes out. According to a column I read today the powers that be are trying to make e-mail and such, as items to monitor without our knowledge. Columnist says, (paraphrased) and I don't doubt this one, as usually what is said is real. That the effort now is to work these things in behind our back by the Justice Department by causing them to be included in the the restrictions to be globalized so that any agreement between countries would include the right to monitor whoever, whenever, however they want without justification. Very similar to these "No Knock" drug raids that often terrorize innocent people. Things like these, in effect, convict people without a trial. "You live in that crummy neighborhood, so you must be guilty too," electronically as mentioned in the column the ability to avoid self incrimination is being strangled. Political correctness, paranoia and Bowdlerism will back us into a corner where we dare not even belch without going to the slammer. It used to be I believe that law officials had to show just and reasonable cause - with some truthfulness involved to a Judge before wiretapping. The method being pushed now is the Justice Department's idea of censorship and creating fear is the sort of thing that took place in other countries than ours which were under dictatorships - - - WHY HERE ? 0 comments so far
