The Rocky Mountain News -- December 16, 2003 in the business section is an article by Staff and wire reports headed "IBM to move jobs 'offshore'"

"Armonk, N.Y. -- IBM Corp. plans to move up to several thousand skilled software jobs from the United States to India, China and other countries, which could amount to one of the biggest such actions in the technology industry."

"IBM documents obtained by the paper said about 4,700 programming jobs could be shifted overseas to save costs, a growing high-tech industry trend known as "offshoring."

"The IBM spokesman in Somers, N.Y. James Sciales, said he would not comment on 'internal presentations' but noted that most of IBM's work force, which totals 315,000, has been overseas for years."

"While companies long ago began moving manufacturing jobs and other blue-collar work to Asia, big business is increasingly shifting skilled work there as well."

When I went to work at X Corporation in 1977 most of the electronic parts used had been manufactured out of our country so the process in Denver was one of assembly and field repair for the average Joe and Jill and most every worker they were attempting to make so flexible that they could be put on any job in any department. Big steel had long gone out of country. Blue collar work was getting few and far between. Now a lot of the clerical, phone work and highly skilled work is going "off shore" too. Here in country the service work such as janitorial and work the big business classified as being work that the American citizens wouldn't do (they would have if paid decently) is given to illegals. That giant sucking sound Perrot mentioned seems to be the vacuum created by our jobs leaving our country. So, what are we, Expendable ? . . . . . . . . . . . .
