Oct. 17, 2003 - 19:18 MDT THE WONDERING JEW Many More Mission Impossible this "Name Five Things" on Friday Five, at least it is pretty much that way for me. Which of the many things in each place to choose ? What import do I place on these items ? Something chosen at random perhaps ? So, I'll make a stab at today's Friday Five and see what comes of it. 1. - Name five things in your refrigerator. A. - A dozen eggs, a watermelon, assorted meats, a gallon of 2% milk, orange juice. 2. - Name five things in your freezer. A. - Ice cream, cob corn, frozen orange juice, frozen chopped bell peppers, 4 TV dinners. 3. Name five things under the sink. A. - SOS pads, Windex, scouring powder, silver polish, Spray 'n' Wash. Name five things around your computer. A. - My "computer" is a Webtv set and TV. Around it is a clock, pens, paper, address/password book and me. Name five things in your medicine cabinet. A. - Bic razors, Desenex, Efferdent, deodorant, a set of small scissors. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Heather's medicine chest is a mystifying array of esoteric and exotic compounds and medicaments that defy description. I make no attempt. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Always is rock throwing at our country and demands for reparation for past slavery here in the old days. An item in today's Rocky Mountain News - back in the short items is one from Benin, Africa. Quoting the article. "74 boy slaves rescued from Nigerian quarries" "Cotonu -- Their bodies scarred by beatings and their hands callused from breaking rocks, 74 boys as young as 4 received medical treatment Thursday after their rescue from Nigerian granite quarries where they were forced to work." "Nigerian police rescued the boys Wednesday and repatriated them to Benin under an accord between the two nations on child trafficking and other cross-border crimes." "Following their rescue -- only the second of its kind in West Africa -- the children told authorities that over the previous three months at least 13 other boys died, succumbing to exhaustion, disease, hunger and abuse, Nigerian police and aid workers said." +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I am relatively sure in my own mind that organizations like Amnesty International have scads of instances over the world they have documented. Just a little reading between the lines on this article it mentioned, "repatriated them to Benin under an accord between the two nations on child trafficking and other cross border crimes," Seems to me to denote the violation of human rights was thriving all along -- just that it wasn't done to the natives of that country and seemed to them to be a valid excuse to keep slaves. The super dim past is with us always perhaps. It was anciently customary for conquering nations to take the able bodied conquered people as slaves and/or breeding stock. Cruel treatment of those captive people was the norm anciently and apparently today it is the norm also. Double barreled is today's entry. Slaves in the world and items in my house, of each, there are so very, very Many More . . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
