THE WONDERING JEW

Further Behind

Seems like there is more trouble in Afghanistan, Todd Pitman of the Associated Press in Kabul, Afghanistan reports, "Hundreds of insurgents in a convoy of trucks attacked a police headquarters in southeastern Afghanistan, triggering a gun battle Sunday that killed 22 people, officials said. Further on Mr. Pitman had this to say, "The fierce fighting in Patika Province was the latest in a wave of violence that has underscored just how unstable Afghanistan remains after U.S. led forces removed the Taliban from power in late 2001."

Now the oil pipeline explosions and Baghdad waterless due to the water supply being sabotaged.

From an article by D'Arcy Doran of the Associated Press today in part says, "A new group of resistance fighters, the Iraqi National Islamic Resistance Movement (Sheesh, they coin names like our Pres.) said in a video-tape aired on the al-Jazeera television network that they would battle the occupying troops even if the U.S. led coalition helps Iraq recover from the war."

"This resistance is not a reaction to the American provocations against the Iraqi people or to the shortage of services, as some analysts believe . . . but to kick out the occupiers as a matter of principle," a man read from a statement."

The oil pipeline was carrying the first Iraqi oil to Turkey after the action. "One of our military spokesman, Guy Shields said it would take up to two weeks to fix the pipe line. L. Paul Bremer, the U.S. civilian administrator of Iraq said in part, "An event such as the explosion in the Kirkuk pipeline costs the Iraqi people $7 million a day and hurts the process of reconstruction."

No potable water to Baghdad indicates to me that soon disease will spread, a human body requires water to survive and people will drink what they can get, boil it if they have the means or drink it as it is. And where is there water to be found ?

Okay, after two years more or less Afghanistan is still simmering to put it politely. Iraq continues to boil even though George said words to the effect that it is over. Wonder if Ho Chi Minh has been resurrected ? We don't have enough on our hands and so now we are messing around in Liberia. All we need is a country in distress in South or Central America to enable us to spread ourselves much too thin.

It still beats me how our country in a recession, with the tax breaks that benefited the wealthy the most, people on the street looking for work can spend the enormous amount of money, material and manpower (who might be people close to us) and think that they can solve a damn thing.

From what I see and read looks like to me that we are going rapidly Further Behind . . . . . . . .
