Jul. 24, 2003 - 23:03 MDT THE WONDERING JEW Spoiled Brats A column by Cokie and Steven V. Roberts this morning in the Rocky Mountain News 7/24/03. Titled Cycle of bitterness reaches new low in house "The issue was innocent enough: a pension reform bill many Democrats actually support. But then the Republican majority in the Ways and Means Committee rewrote the measure overnight and ordered a vote before the panel's Democrats had a chance to read it." Then they say, "Long-simmering tensions finally boiled over. Democrats walked out in protest. Now get this, "Republicans sent the Capitol Police to haul them back. Republican Scott McInnis told Democrat Pete Stark to 'shut up." Stark called McInnis a "wimp" and a "fruitcake." A few bits and pieces from the column: "Partisanship is a good thing. The two parties reflect different values and constituents, and vigorous debate between these opposing views is essential to the legislative process. That process, however, must also include compromise." I think Cokie and Steven have it right. There is a sentence in the column by them that shows that the Democrats are not guilt free, "There's a lot of blame to go around. Until 1994, Democrats ran the House for 40 years with autocratic arrogance." But Tit For Tat seems to me to be childish, early, primary school behavior to say the least I think, regardless of who plays that little game. After all those people in Washington are supposed to have the best interests of our country as a whole as well as giving ear to their constituants to see that they are treated fairly. This sort of behavior makes me gag and mentally barf up a rotten ball of worms. Earlier in their column Cokie and Steven said, "The House of Representatives is starting to resemble the Middle East." An apt thing to say I think. First thing you know both parties will be recruiting suicide bombers ? Assassins ? Who the heck knows ? Are the Republicans in the House in Washington trying to emulate the Republicans in the Great State of Texas ? ? ? ? ? It pains me to think that as a nation we had the stupidity to put politicans in Congress for years and years just to feud and be nasty to each other, ignoring the welfare of the nation. They seem to be worse than an unruly bunch of Spoiled Brats . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
