May. 28, 2003 - 20:55 MDT THE WONDERING JEW Bon Voyage Jeannie What a grand day we had today. Heather was feeling pretty good, much better than when Jeannie got to town and she and her daughter visited us at our apartment. We went down to their apartment and picked Jeannie up today. Out to lunch it was, and such a place the girls picked. Gunter Toody's, a place built more or less like a diner, the kind that came along after the converted streetcars and such. Juke box selectors at some of the tables, just like the ones Heather and I used to play way back then. Photos of Elvis on the walls as were other fifties folk. Booths reminiscent of our days too. The wait staff are a bunch of dingbats that gather around a birthday table and whoop up a storm, one of the things today was a Rap song. At one side mounted at about a 45 degree angle was a 1950's Chevy sports car, Corvette I think it was called, between aisles of booths on the divider was mounted a Triumph motor cycle. A place with atmosphere and happiness as well as good food at a decent price. You might say we rented a corner booth for the price of the meals we ate. Didn't take long to eat, but we lingered, talked, dawdled, talked and still hadn't caught up when we left. We went to a park near where Heather and I live and found a shady bench to continue our conversation. Got up to 87 degrees today which is a bit warm for here. Jeannie, coming from Florida was one cool cat. She made one remark that tickled me. "Ninety degrees in Denver is a lot cooler than 90 degrees in Miami." Yep, she's right too. Here when one gets a bit overheated, the shade of a tree helps the evaporation of body humidity (sweat that is) thus making one cooler. I remember working up a sweat in Florida, it was something that just simmered along until it died out of its own free will. It took forever. I think we could have visited until dark, but we took Jeannie home in time for her to be there when her daughter got home from work. We all agreed to make big plans for next summer when Jeannie comes back again. Providing every one is reasonable healthy of course. So tomorrow Jeannie wings her way home to her husband and her menagerie of cats. Four in number I think. She admits to being about like I am. Loving to go and do, but after so long a time eager to tread on home grounds once more. This year our time together was all to short no fault of hers, but Heather's health has been tetchy and we both are looking forward to being with Jeannie again next year. Reluctantly, for now, Bon Voyage Jeannie . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
