This Time

It will be just a quick Friday Five.

1. - What did you have for breakfast this morning ?

A. - A banana, a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee.

2. - What's your favorite cereal ?

A. - Quaker Oats - Old fashioned - I cook it in such a way as each flake is almost separate.

3. - How often do you eat out ?

A. - It varies, there are times that Heather is too tired to cook or we have been too busy to cook - so we do a Denny's meal. Senior's portions are about the right size for our stomachs. There are times that we eat out for a treat, which are rather far apart due to finances. Do you want that to change ? A. - Yeah, win the lottery and have top menu choices at a place we like all the time.

4. - What do you plan on having for dinner tonight ?

A. - Heather is making a big batch of potato salad for a gathering tomorrow, with enough left over to eat for dinner, with it will be assorted cold cuts, veggies for dip and the dip to go with it and big cups of Mocha, with ice cream after.

5. - What's your favorite restaurant ? Why ?

A. - A place that has changed names but not ownership nor menu. It has fine Mexican food we like and we have the prerogative of eating American style too. Great ambience, not noisy and has superb service.

I feel a bit better today, weak and shaky, going heavy on fluids. I'll be better tomorrow.

Ed Stein has a cartoon in this morning's Rocky Mountain News that tickles me. It seems to highlight the main thing I think is wrong with the U.N. It shows the U.N. buildings with the flags flying as the main part of the picture, with five conversational balloons. First is, "All in favor of becoming irrelevant . . . . . ." Next loony balloony, "May I suggest, 'somewhat'?" Third says, "Shall we say, 'Largely irrelevant' ?" The fourth comes up with, "We insist on, 'Moderately'!" And the last one starts the whole thing all over again, 'Becoming'?" That Ed Stein puts it where it is I think.

The shuttle thing features in an editorial this morning. Brings up something I have been trying to put into words, "Its true tht the shuttle system is technologically inadequate, but the problem is not that we've spent too much to keep it going; its that we haven't spent enough to replace it." As far as robotic stuff it mentions for instance that a robot could not have repaired the Hubble Space Telescope robotically for one thing. I think that the many scientific experiments done on the shuttle than can only be successfully done in space is another good reason. No shuttle ? How the heck are the crew of the space station going to be relieved periodically ? The last paragraph is telling.

"Mars and the moon. Americans used to go to the moon, and then we turned our backs on it. People could go to Mars, if they had the vision and the determination. Of course it would be dangerous, but exploration has always been dangerous. The crew of Columbia faced the danger to follow their dream and ours."

And down the road a piece will come the everlasting situation I guess, "Murphy's Law," almost guarantees that there will once again be something wrong This Time . . . . . . . . .
