Jan. 05, 2003 - 08:38 PST THE WONDERING JEW Spoiled Must be getting time to go home. The goodies that daughter has stashed away for Grandpa are almost gone. There are enough biscotti left for a couple of days, the candy I love is gone, the mocha mix is about done for. But her ever abundant love still wells up and overflows. Another sign it is almost time for us to depart is that the kids are being especially sweet and kind, a dead giveaway that we will soon go. We do get a bit tired around so much bouncy, noisy activity but get a good nights rest to prepare for the next day. I shall miss them all very much after we get home. We have hopes they will be in Denver this summer once again. It is to everyone's benefit that daughter's husband has parents living in Boulder, Colorado, about thirty miles away. When the kids are here there is a constant rotation between Denver and Boulder. Fun times are had by all. It is a very bright and shiny Sunday morning here in Eugene and I have hopes it will stay that way for the rest of the day. Something not often seen here in Eugene in the winter. Yesterday it was constant rain going from a light almost mist to a veritable downpour at times. Sooo, weather is here whether it is the way I want it is often a matter of my own attitude and its adjustment. One thing I like about here is that the grass is always green through the year. I do like to be here during the summer a bit better though, we go to Amazon Park where the grandkids play in a grand playground and we can sit on benches in the shade and occasionally push a swing or twirl a merry-go-round. We often go to one place or another on the coast for entertainment and there are other places near by to go for fun. And then there is the extended patio time for me, sitting out on the patio at the table, reading, sipping iced tea and the occasional bee. Just at the right of their house the forest begins and the deer come by grazing down the hill. A great combination of city and wildwood if I ever saw it. It does worry me a bit that the house is so close to the trees, yet a fire break is there with no trees close. Still a forest fire such as one that occurred near Denver could generate enough heat to fry their house. It is possible for the family to get to Willamett street and down the hill to safe ground quickly, but it still bothers me even so. We went to the new Eugene Library which just opened and what a marvelous place it is. Terminals everywhere, without people waiting to use them which is sign that there are enough of them. Stacks of books and other things everywhere with attentive librarians at the counter on each floor. It is a place well lit, warm with plenty of seating, a home away from home with a few more advantages of one kind and a fewer things of absolute privacy one has at home. It is a grand place and encouraging to see wall to wall young people taking advantage of it. My complete assessment of our time here ? Grandpa and Grandma have been completely and totally Spoiled . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
