Dec. 11, 2002 - 20:07 MST THE WONDERING JEW No Change Even though William H. Donaldson has to be confirmed Bush chose him to head the SEC. Apparently a man of integrity, and probably is. Mr. Bush is changing personnel but his big gun is still aimed at big tax cuts. As it turns out, tax cuts may benefit the blue collar guy a few cents a year, but the corporations and rich people are the ones who make out like burglars. A matter of figures. Ten per cent of a dollar is ten cents, ten per cent of a million dollars is what ? A hundred thousand dollars ? Of course there are some businesses that make out even better than that. A telephone office in the Bahamas or some isolated island in the Caribbean and factorys in anywhere but the United States and they don't have to pay hardly any taxes at all. I read somewhere that some of the biggies are having their bookwork, clerical, record keeping done out of country now also.l So the money is going out of country, the work is going out of country and taxes are not being paid. And we are now at 5 per cent unemployment here. So a very few rich men will profit greatly by a cut in taxes, for the rest of it, seems like a lot of smoke and mirrors. A lot of this stuff doesn't make much sense to this old man. Huge business endeavors going down the tube because of outright theft by CEO's and their henchmen (call it what ever you will) Enron, Enron, Enron. Other businesses working outside of the country paying no taxes and no wages to our citizens -- and now I hear that those truants are allowed to bid on federal government contracts. Hoooo by golly ! Drill for oil in the Arctic, make it easier for big timber to log pristine wilderness areas. Things like that are obvious to me bad for our country in the end. Bigotry rampant again, Lott on the pot, now actually saying the unspeakable and then trying to say that he didn't say what we heard, and if we heard it he didn't mean it that way. Molly Ivins the columnist for Creators Syndicate brings up the item about Kissinger to lead the independent inquiry on September 11. Kissinger the man who seems to me to be the epitome of a double dealing diplomat, a man at the beck and call of those in power, a man whose machinations has made him more or less persona non grata in some countries due to some activities in Chile which messed over a bunch of folk, some of whom actually survived. So Kissyface will take the reins and say whatever his buyer wants him to say. At least that is how it seems to me. Something Ashleigh Brilliant put in his panel in the paper doesn't apply either. He said, "It can be very confusing when everybody's trying to do the right thing at the same time." To me it is a worse mess when everybody in government is trying their best to get theirs and evenso working at cross purposes. Papers get printed, life goes on, but still No Change . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
