Nov. 19, 2002 - 20:03 MST THE WONDERING JEW Enigma I hear these catch phrases, "Its all about money," "Its all about Oil," "Its all about bipartisanship," Now that that last one seems to be an oxymoron if I ever saw one. The ones who claim to be bipartisan are the ones who are out to bury those of the other parties. Bury not Bi or is it maybe, "Pay To Play ?" What news I get seems to be roiled and muddled. Afghanistan was put back to the Stone Age before we went in there and made it worse. Yet in another bit of news, since the Taliban is now out, opium production has increased at a super rate in Afghanistan. So where do we stand in this comic opera ? Now our economy is limping along and corporations to hear what they said long ago, something to the effect that they couldn't maintain sufficient profit margin to be able to pay dividends and expand, unless they put operations overseas. So they did. Now we have these "multi-national" corporations with businesses, factories and of course diplomatic relations with those countries to ensure they can continue to operate under the pay as you go plan ? But the pay doesn't hit here in our country. Jobs are lost, manufacturing capacity is lost. We could not do what we did in WW 2, now with our factories and production in the hands of foreign countries causing split loyalties by the biggies in the business we are supremely vulnerable. Off shore tax breaks hurt our government and us also. Why can't our government (us) prevent businesses from leaving the country, from being part of any out of country business endeavors ? I know who will scream to high heaven, that's a given. We want our country to remain free, yet we are allowing ourselves to be hemmed in rapidly now. So later on we may be free to breathe and hunger, that is if we behave. Generally our populace seems to be apathetically lazy and apparently as long as they don't have to get off their duff and think or put forth any effort we will get what is given us. Mea culpa as I have the same failing. Yet I do occasionally think about the mess we are in. Dunno, looking about nowadays at all the things that are wrong and the few that are right I am beginning to wonder is the US in chaos ? Our society and government -- the great Enigma . . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
