THE WONDERING JEW

A Thousand

And on the foreign front I see in the news that Saudi Arabia will not allow bases on its soil to be used for an attack on Iraq even if the United Nations authorizes military action -- so said Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal in an interview broadcast Sunday. According to the Associated Press.

So now we are beefing up a base in Qatar. To boot, Russia, China and France oppose the American proposal to the U.N. to authorize harsh measures against Iraq if it fails to cooperate with stiffer inspection procedures.

So it seems that we as a country with a warlike Bush at the helm has backed itself into a rather tight spot.

Here at home Mr. President and his men are once again talking out of both sides of their mouths. According to an article by Stephen Labaton and Richard W. Stevenson in the Rocky News of November 4th. "Administration officials sent out conflicting signals Sunday about the future of Harvey L. Pitt as chairman ot the Securities and Exchange Commission as they scrambled to defuse an awkward political problem two days before congressional elections."They seem to be trying to swim forward as they backwater. "Advisers to President Bush made clear that he would dismiss Pitt if the investigations into his selection of a new accounting oversight board show he failed to act properly, EVEN AS THEY PUBLICLY PRAISED HIM ON THE SUNDAY MORNING TELEVISION SHOWS." (caps mine of course).

"White House officials repeated Sunday that they are "displeased" that Pitt had failed to notify them about the ties between William H. Webster, the new head of an accounting oversight board, and a company accused of fraud. The board is supposed to clean up the accounting profession after a wave of corporate and auditing failures."

"The failure by Pitt to share that information has prompted investigations by the commission's inspector general, the General Accounting Office and the Senate."

The article says further, "Beyond dealing with criticism of Pitt, Bush continues to face pressure from Democrats and even some Republican advisers to make changes to his economic team which has been dogged by criticism that it is gaffe-prone and unable to build confidence on Wall Street."

Gaffe-prone PC language for Accident prone better known as being screw ups. Seems to me that the screwing up has been on the side of big money also.

Seems to me that I heard that Mr. Bush said something to the effect that he would see that the tax cuts were kept in force. Yeah, let our corporations put the manufacturing and office work overseas and make us a nation of Hamburger Helpers and janitors while the big money guys reap profits hand over fist . . . . . confidence in Wall Street ? ? ? ? I have little confidence in things being fair to us little people, ever.

Seems to me that Mr. Bush and his buddy-buddies are batting A Thousand . . . . . . . . .
