Sept. 25, 2002 - 19:55 MDT THE WONDERING JEW From Here It says in the newspaper today, quoting an article in the New York Times, "Number of poor increases." Geez, that's news ? ? ? ? Creative accounting and greedy CEO's who insisted that employees buy corporation stock, then sold their own stock and pulled out previous to the crash of the empire they were supposed to head. Many of the busted corporations caused 401k's to be drastically devalued because of that, to boot. Life savings went mostly down the tube. Looks to me like in past times the average stockholder wanted dividends and didn't care if the corporations shipped our work to overseas endeavors. Are we now beginning to get the idea that a nation of burger flippers is not going to be as well off as before and that the people overseas who do the work we used to do will be underpaid to do the work ? How much more proof is needed ? Revolting development of recent origin. Seems like some columnists have contracts with certain papers to allow their columns to be shown on-line. In our Rocky Mountain News, a favorite columnist of mine who writes humorous columns, Bruce Cameron has a contract, but Molly Ivins doesn't. At least that is what the News says. That's a bummer because her column of today won't show for three or four days later on google, unless they are not allowed to do so either. Her column shown in our paper today is titled, "Latest Bush world policy repellent, impractical." I quote in part some of what she says, "The government works for us. Rank imperialism and warmongering are not American traditions or values. We do not need to dominate the world." "We want and need to work with other nations. We want to find solutions other that killing people. Not in our name, not with our money, not with our children's blood." Molly apologizes for using "we" saying that, "Americans famously can't agree on the time of day." She says further on, "All the experts tell us anti-Americanism thrives on the perception that we are arrogant, that we care nothing for what the rest of the world thinks. Even our innocent mistakes are often blamed on obnoxious triumphalism. The announced plan of this administration reinforces every paranoid, anti-American prejudice on this earth." Molly speaks "common sense" in so many ways, for instance mentioning that the Israelis are not able to stop terrorism. She also mentions that all the bucks spent on war and domination take away from all the good things we have here now. Molly says later in her column, "Under this doctrine, we claim the right to first-strike use of nuclear weapons and "unannounced pre-emptive strikes." "That means surprise attacks. Happy Pearl Harbor Day. We have just proclaimed ourselves Bully of the World." Further on she says, "This reckless, hateful and ineffective approach to the rest of the world has glaring weaknesses. It announces that we intend to go in and take out everybody else's nukes whenever we feel like it. Meanwhile we are doing nothing to stop their spread." This Bush doctrine tends to make me totally paranoid to say the least. Also makes me wonder how long before my opinions land me in the slammer without any one knowing where I am. Seems to me that Mr. Bush is after total control of the whole world, regardless of right, wrong or the wishes of his own people. If he wants everything, I would like to tell him, he can't get there From Here . . . . . . . . . . 0 comments so far
